what kind of rod? on some of the heavier stuff people will do underwraps, but in general, the rod itself doesn't require any prep. I usually clean the blank with warm soapy water before wrapping to ensure there are no oils or grease that could contaminate the thread/finish but that is about it. i stay away from most solvents because some finishes can be damaged. Mark...
I wipe down the entire rod with windex or a solution of Dawn soap and warm water. But use Dawn sparingly; just a drop in bowl. Great question! Paul Re: rod prep prior to wrapping and finishing guides?

Same here, warm water. I have used alchohol in the past and not had problems but switched to just plain water as there was no need to spend the money to clean a rod before wrapping. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
