Hi
I am shasing some info on tricks to install IPS spinning seat to blank. I am a beginner and i am aware of how to shim before gluing a reel seat on. The problem i have is that the rear grip for an IPS seat gets in the way of putting on a rear and mid layer of fiberglass tape. Any hints on how to put shims in knowing the rear grip needs to go on first? Stuart Re: IPS reel seat

I usually put the grip on from the rear in this instance. First glue the IPS on with shims as you would a normal seat then, work the rear grip up from the back. Unless you have an extreme taper or, and unusually long single piece rear grip, you should not have any hassles. Ream the grip a bit if necessary. Doing it this way also gives you a good clamping scenario. If the seat is left to cure first, then the rear grip sungged up and clamped, you can get a very noce finish at the grip/seat joint. This is also a great method when usuing the Matagi IPS trim. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
