Sigh.....PG coated micro guide rings. How to remove?

OK, finished some micros with multiple coats of Permagloss. For some reason, probably because I used too much PG, the PG flowed right onto the guide ring. So now I have micros with the rings coated with cured PG. I think I must be making every PG mistake possible....:)
These are Fuji SICS. Any suggestions as to how to remove? not sure if SIC will stand up to sand paper. I'm thinking of taking sharp pointed knife and just scraping it off - not sure if I'll hurt the SIC rings. Thanks, Mo Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/26/2009 09:07PM by Mo Yang. The PG won't bond to the SIC ring. Just take a sharp pointed knife and scrape it off.

Mo;
For future reference; the Batson guides have a slightly longer neck, lessening the chance of getting PG in the rings. I also only use two locking wraps to allow more distance between ring and thread. Together they have kept me from having the same challenge as you. Re: Sigh.....PG coated micro guide rings. How to remove?

Rings coated or completly plugged? If it is plugged the finish probably has a bite on the frame and is not only stuck to the SIC surface. Plugging of micro guides is a real occupational hazard in my shop.
Highly embarassing no matter what finish you are using if they are plugged - many lessons here! Be sure each and every guide is checked prior to delivering a rod to a customer. For future reference the Batson rings are smaller for same size Fuji guides and blocking will also occur if too much finish is applied. This is not a brand issue but a technique issue and can occur with any of the guides For plug removal use the smallest device that will do the job also fits in this case. It is quite easy to heat the tip of an icepick slightly where you can penetrate the plug slightly and wallow out the finish from the inside of the ring. Ice Pick - Cigaretter Lighter - Cube of Ice I hold the ice cube on the outside of the frame just to insure not overheating the frame/ring adhesive while center punching the finish. I have not had a guide ring plugged with Perma Gloss but it is quite common when I use other finishes in too big of hurry. If you got Perma Gloss in the ring you were applying too heavy of a coat - spin light coats of fresh Perma Gloss on at 200 and it will not flow before the surface firms to the thread. Thanks everyone.
Tom, glad to hear the reassurance. I'll just scrape it off. Bill, you are right. It was a bit embarrassing to post this query but then protecting one's ego is way overrated so here is in plain view for all.....:) No, it is not plugged - just coated. I think that PG's viscosity is not high enough to plug up the guide hole. THANKS. Mo Re: Sigh.....PG coated micro guide rings. How to remove?
