ISB822.5 question

I have a friend who would like a spinning rod built for casting lighter plastics into heavier weed cover, and was considering using the ISB822.5 rainshadow blank I already have on hand. I think this blank will handle
the casting end of the equation nicely, but not having used this blank yet, i was wondering if it has adequate backbone to haul bass out of cover? Or would another blank be better suited to this application? Any input from those of you more familiar with this blank would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance! Re: ISB822.5 question

I've not used the ISB822.5
But if it's similar to the RX8+822.5, then it is not what I would want to use to pull fish out of weeds it is more of a light application blank (drop shotting and such) You will need more of a work horse type of blank that can handle the 5 lb fish with the 5lbs of grass he's dragging out. I would find out just how light he is casting and how far he is looking at casting then go from there. With the weed challenge I would want to go with a med heavy at the least, and probably a heavy moderate action being my personal choice. Re: ISB822.5 question

Mr. Gardner: The original "Nano Micro Man" must surely be seeking a promotion? Advice like that entitles you to a senior level consultation certificate! Kudos! Re: ISB822.5 question

I love that blank, and I built one of my favorite rods on it, but I don't think that it has sufficient backbone for hauling bass out of cover. Good luck.

The ability to throw light plastics and haul out of heavy cover. I struggle with that too. I have had pretty good luck with an RX7 ISB782. I throw Super Flukes, Senkos and tubes with it. It's short enough for dock skipping and has a fair amount of backbone. If you use 20# braid you can fish the slop if you are careful. Point the rod at the snag and hold the spool and haul straight back.
The 822.5 is great for jig worming the edges or dropshotting. Re: ISB822.5 question

I just finished a 6'6" 4 power moderate action for this very application. 25, 16, 3s to the tip. 20lb braid with fluoro leader. Purple on black blank. Call it the brusier cause it puts a hurt on slop fish. Perfect for fluke, dinger, wacky rig, etc. in the grass. Gets the lighter baits to the holes and has enough guts to get the fish out. Thanks to Bob M at Custom Tackle on a dinger recommend, I won a club tourney out of the box with this stick. Also, need to add thanks to Bob for helping me get this thing set up. Struggled a little with the stripper and getting distance with 1/8oz weight. All it takes now is a flick of the wrist. Thanks Bob. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/24/2009 10:23PM by Jim Fielding.
