I have never built a Musky rod and in fact have never fished for them.
I have a chance to go Musky fishing and have a Batson RCLB70ML and was wondering if any Musky Rod builders would like to offer an opinion on this blank as a musky rod. It does seem a little heavy but not all that far out of line. If it would make a decent musky rod what do you all think of split grips? And what about the Fuji Palm support reel seat over a standard trigger seat. thanks in advance Re: Musky Blank ? Batson RCLB70ML

I think it would be just fine, we routinely throw lures of 3-8oz+ and a rod with that tip size and lb range will surely work.
Split grip....I'd make sure to have at least 4" of material behind the casting reel seat, and a long enough handle to tuck under your arm while working jerkbaits, topwaters, glide baits and such. I'd also opt for NO forgrip. Rods of that size you can hold in your hand when needed for extra leverage while in battle. Something set up like this: [www.rodbuilding.org] DR Re: Musky Blank ? The RCLB's are GREAT blanks. Batson Enterprises has just introduced several new Musky blanks. If you think the 70ML might be a bit heavy, the new IMU70M-TC is a little lighter, smaller tip and butt. It's also in the titanium chrome finish, which is sweet. Re: Musky Blank ? Batson RCLB70ML

Thanks.
This is a blank that was sent to me by mistake and just trying to figure out what I could use it for rather than send it back. The supplier is more than willing to take it back. Just thought I might try something differant and this Musky trip just came up. I use many RCLB's but in a completely differant aplication. Thanks for the responses. Re: Musky Blank ? Batson RCLB70ML

Hey Jeff, the Fuji PSS seat is a great seat when you're slinging big baits for a longer period of time.
On some factory rods I have, they use the Fuji size 17 seats and a couple inshore rods even use a size 18. After a while the trigger seems to dig into my fingers a bit more. Granted, this could be caused by my grip position. But when using the PSS, I find that my hand rests more naturally when palming the reel and my wrist isn't at an overextended position. Just some personal observations but I thought I should throw it out anyway. Good Luck! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
