Uplock or downlock reel seats

Hi everyone, I have been pondering over the question of installing spinning reel seats in an uplock or downlock position for quite some time though I had built all my spinning and popping outfits with down locking seats. I have tried to search for topics related to the subject but have not come across any. I would greatly appreciate any views or comments regarding the advantages/disadvantages of the reel seat positioning. Thanks in advance everyone. Cheers.

Thanks Chris. Not sure why my search couldn't turn out any results. I've gone thru the discussions & conclusion is like what John mentioned, its all personal preference. Thanks guys....

If the spinning rod is 9', 10', or longer and may at some point be used to cast braid, you will want consider mounting the reel seat in the up locking position, In situations where braid is used with more powerful rods, often casting aids (such as the Breakaway Cannon) are used. These devices are usually mounted very close to the reel seat and often on top of the forward hood.

I prefer up locking so I can "feel" my bait better.

Put the reel in the seat both ways and see how you like it. I like down locking so my hand is not on the threads.
