Gents,
I would like to build a first class Perch rod. I believe sensitivity is most important here due to the fact that many times there is no discernable "bite" but rather a very light loading as they suck the minnow off of the hook. I will recommend it be used with braided line. What do you think for a choice of blank (spinning)?? Thanks for all !! Re: Great Lakes Perch Rod ??

are you feeling the bite or watching the tip of the blank for bite detection Re: Great Lakes Perch Rod ??

Chappel,
I would go with a 6'6" medium light extra fast tip. One rod that is a recent introduction to the line is the one from St. croix, called the SCIII 6'8" m-l ex-fast tip. This is just a nice overall rod with the very light and sensitive tip that you would like for this fishing. If you happen to hook into a 5 lb walleye, that will be fine as well. Take care Roger Re: Great Lakes Perch Rod ??

I agree with Roger on a fast action light or med lt. It's preference but I do a lot of Lake Erie perchin' and for me, the faster the better! Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Great Lakes Perch Rod ??

I do a lot of Perch jigging here on Lake Michigan.
I agree with the med-light, but I like a longer rod. I really like St.Croix's 2S76MLF, 3S76MLXF (or 3S76MLXF2) or 4S76MLF depending on the budget. I use the 3S76MLXF myself and love it. A lot of guys think "Perch" and go too light. The perch are going 10-14+" and while I am jigging spoons I nearly always hook a Smallmouth, Brown, Walleye, or even a Coho now and then.
