Just wondering if anyone has an easy method for removal of reel seats from a blank of an existing build when the seat needs to be reused on a new blank build.
Any help would be appreciated. Re: Reel seat removal

Tony,
There was a thread about 6 weeks back dealing with removing reel seats. If you search with "reel seat removal" as the term and look in all posts for the last 90 days, it'll come up. Sorry, I don't know how to make the search show as a link. Pete Appel Re: Reel seat removal

Sometimes heating it in boiling water for a while works. I have cut blank and drilled it out of the seat. Re: Reel seat removal

If you want to save the reel seat and not the blank go with Bill; suggestion. An if you also want to save the blank, depending on what was used to glue the reel seat to the blank hot water well work, sometimes you ruin the blank. unless its a very valuable or costly reel seat, generally the best option is to just cut it off and get a new one. Thats almost always my case unless its something that is truly a work of art in which case, I take the seat over the blank.
If it was glued up well, and done more than a month ago, it has been my experience that it likely wont come off. Re: Reel seat removal

I have removed several reel seats with the boiling water method. It takes several minutes in the water to loosen up the epoxy, but it does work. Re: Reel seat removal

Cut the blank and into the zip lock bag it went.
About 8 minutes later the epoxy was soft enough to start tunring and out she came, with a bit of effort. Thanks everyone, your help is very appreciated. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
