I have a customer that wants an 8-9 ft. spinning blank to use with 1/16 oz jigs and braided 10-15# line.
What do you suggest and also what guides should I use? Thanks Crappiekiller Re: Need help with blank

Is he going to be casting or jigging? I only ask because that weight jig on that test braid is not going to cast very far, or very well. What is the intended purpose? Re: Need help with blank

I assume he wants a crappie jigging rod, I build mine on 8-9 ft steel head blanks and put single foot fly eyes on. This rig is used with aan automatic fly reel loaded with 10- 20 lb line. Re: Need help with blank

I assume by your signature tag that this is to be a crappie jigging pole. If that is the case and you are selling the thing I have a suggestion. When he picks it up and pays you for it include in the sale an extra tip top with a large diameter tube with the following written instructions. "One additional large bore rod tip is included with this custom jigging pole at no charge. When the user sticks this custom pole underwater into a tree top to dislodge the $ 0.50 jig and snaps the tip of the pole use the included repair kit for an "on the water" repair. Additional larger tip tops are will be supplied at cost to repair additional breakages. When the jigging pole reaches an overall length of five feet it is suggested that a new pole be purchased from the custom builder.

John,
I would use a fly rod blank. You have thousands of options that would work great for crappie, just figure out your budget and look at the fly rod blanks from your favorite brand. I'd use the lightest guides you're comfortable using with a long light rod like that. If you like micros, use some micros. If not, use the lightest guides your budget allows. You should also check out the single footed wire guides, I haven't weighed them, but they should be light. Robert Re: Need help with blank
