Building a Lamiglas IMP 903-3, 7 1/2', 6-12#, 1/4-1/2oz. Butt guide is 251/2" from reel face. Next guide is 15" from butt guide. Choker is 9 1/2" up from that. Then come 5 more runners. Total guides = 8 + TT. Static testing looks fine. Casting seems really good. However, I am slightly concerned that there may not be enough guides in the butt section. Any thoughts?
Thanks, George Re: Popping rod guide spacing question

If it works, it works. However, I'd suggest trying one more spacing arrangement before deciding how to go.
Try to find a guide that will fit the same line path but be situated about 19 to 21 inches from the reel spool face. It's likely that one size larger guide than what you now have should do the trick. From there, you'll need 1 additional guide to make it to the choker. Get that set up and go try it. ................. Re: Popping rod guide spacing question

Tom is right. I have built several of these series of rods and they make fine rods. Since it is a popping rod, the tip is quite fast. Therefore you need guides that are somewhat closer together at the tip, than you would use for a slower tipped rod. However, the butt section is fairly robust, so again the need for fewer guides. I generally use a spacing of about 18-25 inches from the center of the reel seat for the butt guide. The stiffer the butt section and or the longer the rod, the further away from the reel seat. Take care Roger Re: Popping rod guide spacing question
