Just replaced hook in my aluminum gaff.Thought that I might just as well paint it while I'm at it.Was told that to paint it you have to put something on it to oxidize it first.Does anybody know weather that's true or not.
If so would anybody know what I should get to do the job? Thanks in advance<<<<DON>>>>

You are going to need an aluminum etch primer. Automotive paint store will have what you need.

Zinc chromate primer at boat stores and some auto parts stores. Alodine is great if you can find it too. Be careful, follow the directions, and use a respirator! Zinc chromate is highly carcinogenic. Proper prep is the best way to prevent corrosion from ruining your paint. Good luck
