I am building a calstar 700xh for a tuna jig stick. I am trying to keep the weight down by using a fuji heavy duty reel seat. My question is should i also use a graphite gimbal or should I go the a aluminim gimbal.
Thanks Lou Re: Gimbal

Go for the aluminum one graphite can break you wont really notice the diffence till it breaks and stabs your wedding tackle (THAT HURTS REAL BAD) Re: Gimbal

On my 700H and 7470H I use a ball gimbal.
When casting a jig or fly lining a bait the little finger of your bottom hand will comfortably fit in the smallest diameter of the gimbal just ahead of the ball. It makes it slightly easier to cast and makes gripping the rod feel a little more secure, especially if your hands are wet or slippery from handling a bait. Bill Re: Gimbal

Metal will scratch the jel coat on the boat if contact is made--------composite won't scatch near as bad---------Learned this the hard way Re: Gimbal

If you'll be using less than 50 pound test you'll be OK with the graphite gimbal. If it will be above 50# I'd use a aluminum gimbal. Re: Gimbal

I would have to agree with the ball gimble, I use them on all my rods and they are much easier on the hip than the regular gimbles are.

Hi Louis,
For a rod that heavy, I would go for the ball gimbal, I think it's a better design. My stand-up rods all have the original Bunker Ball Gimbals and I wouldn't trade them for anything. When not in use, throw a butt cap over it and you won't have scratches on the deck. Best Regards, Darrin Heim American Tackle Company Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
