Hi Donald,
I have always made my own gaffs. Depending on the hook style and the blank being used, I have drilled a hole to put the tang in the blank (if the hook has a tang) and I have also ground the tang off to make a point on the end to insert the gaff hook into the end of the blank, inside diameter permiting of course. I always use a thick paste-like glue similar to PC7 (PC3) etc. It dries hard as a rock and will never crack. I'll pack it in the hole and around the bottom of the hook shank and will wipe it smooth around the hook. After it dries I may have to sand to a smooth surface but then I will wrap with thread and apply rod finish over the top. They look good and last a long time. In fact I still use some made 20 years ago and my friends are still using the gaffs I made for them as well. I do wish I had used stainless hooks on all of them though. Don; I have used Kar-Dol to secure my gaff hooks in the handles. I use cut off blanks for handles Re: <<Glue for gaff>>
