Thread tension choice?

Never used Madeira before. Is it better to tension the bobbin or the thread ? Re: Thread tension choice?

IMO, it's much better to tension the spool than the thread no matter what thread you use. Tensioning the thread can cause frayed thread (fuzzies) and break the metallic film on metallics. I tried the "self-made" spring devises and prefer the magnet ones.
