Pac Bay Wrapper

I just finished wrapping my first rod. I am having trouble with the wrapper free-wheeling. If I need to back up or work the wrap I have to reach back to the handle. The wrapper turns good without the rubber band attached. Is there something I can do to the motor to loosen it up?

Not really - depending on the gear reduction, you will have to fight back pressure when you attempt to turn the rod by hand.

As you improve your skills learning to use the wrapper, this will happen less often, but not go away completely.

Tom's right, the motor will stay about as tight as it is when you got it. Some of the builders have replaced the AC motor with a DC motor and have designed switches to reverse polarity and direction. Most of us just live with it and try to make fewer mistakes, but it's fun to tinker with your tools as well.

Chip,
If you wanted to drop me an e-mail, I could send you some details about swapping out your ac motor for a dc motor and foot pedal to allow you to easily reverse the wrapper direction.

Take care
Roger

Thanks for all the replys. I'm not sure I want to go the DC route, but I may email Roger to get the details. There is a nice guy down here that is a custom rod builder. He let me watch him make Butt Wraps the other day and he was working the rod back and forth lining up the thread. I would like to back up for mistakes, but also there are times you just want to get it right.

Thanks again. I will have more questions later

Chip
