I'm very new to the snake skin world on rod building. I have a friend who would like me to put some skin on the rear grip, but he would like it to be cork grip. I was woundering if any of the pros. would recomend this, and if you do, should I put a lite coat of finish on the grip first so that want no finish get under the skin after I have installed it ? I already know that you have to use alot of C.P. I just want to do it right. Thanks for any comments.

Jeff,

Check out this website and you'll find a tutorial on applying Snake skins to blanks by Pat VinZandt (?sp), just follow the same steps to do your grip. >>>>----------->[rodbuilding_tutorials.webs.com]

Thanks william, I was at the show this past weekend, and sat through Pat's class that was very helpful. I also talked to him after the show at the skin shop booth where I got my skin. I did a rod of my on sunday that turned out ok for my first [ I guess ]. I only put it on the splitgrip and the fore grip, I wasn't sure about cork, how it would do. Thanks for the reply

Is this going to be a spinning rod? Split grip on a cork handle offers a nice area of blank for a great snake skin wrap! Looks great and the true feel of cork remains. Jeff, I posted a photo of a Diamond Back on a small split grip. Owner really loves it!

yes steve, it's going to be a spinning. He wants it to be full grip, I tried talk him into a split grip, but he said his dad would rather have a full grip.I'm trying to learn how to upload pic so I can show you my split grip that I did this week with cobra, but i'm having a very hard time with it. Give me some time and I figure it out. [ hopefully ]. Thanks for the comment.
