To all, I am looking for some input on snake guides versus single foot guides on a 10wt to be used on NE strippers and bluefish fishing from a boat. Best Regards Peter White Lyme, CT Re: Single foot guides for 10wt fly rod

Both will work. Snakes will be less expensive. Single foot ceramics will last longer and provide longer line life in some cases. They may also contribute to smoother line (drag) pay out and will be quieter.

Peter -
I agree with Tom on the benefits of ceramic, but if you like that "wire look" of snake guides, I have built some rods using Hopkins & Holloway single foot, which have a distinctive "ovular" shape that is not a perfect circle like a lot of other single foot wire guides. You could almost call it a "single foot snake guide". I have found they cast very smoothly and their quality is top notch. I have been using the chrome on the salt flats of Florida and have had no issues. They have a titanium coated model that is supposed to be even smoother. Check it out. Hi Peter,
This is my opinion however it is a bit biased toward my products of course. Between snakes, single foot wire frames ,and ceramics, I would go with the ceramics. I feel they cast better and I like the smooth strip and how they perform when fighting a fish. With that said, I would go with our Titan Ringlock guides which I feel are the absolute best guides offered for this type of rod. They will have,, - light physical weight - flexible feet and frames - slight arrow shape foot on the single foot fly guides helping thread to lock the guide in - shorter foot print reducing length of wrap and flat spot on blank - Ringlock design to eliminate ring loss - Nanolite inserts are extremely hard as well thinner and lighter weight - Nanolite inserts have a slightly larger ID then standard rings making them ideal for knot connections - titanium frame material that will never corrode Obviuosly I use them myself and all the heavy fly rods I will be building in the future will have these as my first choice. I hope you would consider them a possible choice as well. Best Regards, Darrin Heim American Tackle Company Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
