Hello, I am wondering how others are holding the micro guides to the blank while test casting, I bought the rubber tubing but it is too big for the blank up closer to the tip. and i am afraid of losing the guides while test casting. Im building a 6'6" med, fast spinning blank, I ordered the guides and this is the set-up they sold me 10-8-6-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 plus tip, all guides are fuji alconite blag's. Does this sound right? Also is the guide feet prep the same for the micros, they are so small and i dont want to mess them up. I would really appreciate any advice i can get on these subjects
Thanks Everyone Chris Sadler Re: newbie ? "micros"

Small 3 inch cable ties:
When you get some of these in your hands use the Contact Us button and arrange a call. We will provide some details that will make the use painless and allow you to place the guides and align before wrapping. If you are going to the Show next week please stop by the Swampland booth for a demo. Available - [www.swamplandtackle.com] Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/10/2009 08:55PM by Bill Stevens. I just use really narrow strips of blue masking tape. Works fine for me. Even if you cast a guide off of the rod, the lure will keep you from loosing it, though I have never cast one off of the rod. Scott Sheets www.smsrods.com Re: newbie ? "micros"

Masking tape ¼ wide.
If needed file just enough off the ft. to allow smooth transition of the thread up onto the ft. Don’t know that you will need all those guides; you should be able to better tell what is needed when you start testing. Re: newbie ? "micros"

Chris-if you are building that as a spinning rod-that stripper guide sounds small and short. You said it was a spinning blank -that doesn't mean it can't be used to build a casting rod-that guide setup sounds like a casting rod's. Just making sure you and you dealer are on the same page. If casting... you building on top or a spiral?
I'm with Steve on the number of guides. I sometimes still use tape like Scott and Steve, especially towards the tip. I cut 1/4 masking tape into thirds and use a cork blocker to stop the guide from sliding. ----------------- AD Re: newbie ? "micros"

Small point- no matter what method you use to secure them, they cannot be lost during a test cast. The line will be through the guide.
I use the zip ties that Bill Stevens wrote about above, but have also used masking tape cut to quarter inch widths. I have found it easier to hold the guide with tape on the upper third of the rod. Re: newbie ? "micros"

It is going to be a spinning rod, and that is what they sold me for the spinning rod im building, I also bought guides for a 7 ' med fast, casting rod im building and they sold me 1-10, and 8 lsg-3.5j plus tip. Unable to get 3" zip ties but purchased 4" they worked really well so far. Thanks for all the replys Re: newbie ? "micros"

Chris-Hate to see you make a mistake but to me those guides you mentioned in your 1st post sound like a set that would normally be used on a casting rod. Check with your dealer again to make sure he or she understood that you were building a spinning rod. Either I'm really missing something or y'all's wires got crossed. Maybe somebody with more experience than I will step in and straighten me out.
Good Luck, Chris Re: newbie ? "micros"
