Does Tru Oil Gun Stock Finish remain clear over time over anything other that wood, or does it yellow? Should I apply over an inlay, or avoid that area and just finish the wood?
Thanks, Gary Re: Question on Tru Oil Finish

It goes on amber. It's not a water-white clear coating such as Permagloss. But it typically doesn't get much if any darker over time. What you have at the outset is pretty much it.

How does it work for cork? Rodbuilding, cheaper than therapy. Re: Question on Tru Oil Finish

Very popular on cork! Works good particularly on burl cork where it really brings out the grain Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Question on Tru Oil Finish

I think it's the best cork finish available. I use a couple coats on my cork grips. Any more than that, and the cork starts to get shiny, which I don't like. Just make sure that you're using good cork (preferably NOT filled), because the tru-oil turns the pits/holes rather dark, giving the cork an "antique" look, while protecting it from the elements. If the cork is cheap cork (i.e. more pits/holes than actual cork), the tru-oil will make it look worse. Further, if the cork has been filled, the tru-oil will exaggerate the seams between cork and fill, making it obvious. Re: Question on Tru Oil Finish

I have used tru oil but I would prefer it if the finish were more "satin" than gloss. On the plus side it is easy to use and can be spread on with your fingers for small jobs. The color change on regular cork is about the same as U 40. It does not take tru oil long to cure either. As Mike said it will enhance the burl cork.
