I have a rod that is broken about a foot from the tip. Is there any way to repair a blank that is broken by splicing the two parts together.
thanks Randy, Re: BLANK REPAIR

Check the online library page here for the article on repairing broken rods. Takes some care and patience, but they can be successfully and functionally repaired.

Randy,
If you have broken the rod a foot from the tip, you can likely splice it with little issue. The problem comes into rods that have been broken just a few inches from the tip. Especially, in the case of light or medium light rods with fast or extra fast tips, repair in this area near the tip will often ruin the action of the rod. However, when the break is a foot or so away from the tip, you can normally repair the rod with little change in the action of the rod. Follow Toms advice and use the procedures he outlined. Take care Roger Re: BLANK REPAIR

Randy,
The type of break you're describing is very repairable. As the other folks have indicated, the library article on this site by Ralph O'Quinn is excellent, and will work fine if you follow his instructions and suggestions exactly. Don't try and substitute materials (i.e. don't use a graphite sleeve - it's got to be thin wall fiberglass to work). That close to the end of the rod, the inside pin is more of an alignment aid than anything else, but make sure to bevel the ends anyway .Take your time, and I'm sure you'll be able to get it done. I would overwrap the entire splice with size A thread matched to the blank as closely as possible. I also like Permagloss (about 6 coats) rather than the thicker 2 part epoxies; I seem to get better thread penetration which helps the strength. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
