Is it possible to epoxy a 2 pc rod and make it 1 pc or is this out of the question? ~Jon There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind Re: making a 2 pc rod a 1 pc?

you can do it . To do the job, you have to do it like you were fixing a broken rod. What type of rod is it, need more info. Why would you want to make a one peice out of a 2 peice

I'm guessing that your rod is coming loose and you want to just get rid of the problem? If so, sure, you can clean, scuff and then epoxy the mating pieces of the ferrule together.
But I'd think on this long and hard before actually doing it. Then again, I don't know your reason for wanting to do this. The above was just a guess and if correct, there are ways to restore your ferrule fit to like new condition. ................ Re: making a 2 pc rod a 1 pc?

I've had customers come to me wanting this done pretty often, either they've had rods break in the past or the rod was a loose fit, if they let me I'll usually just advise them to let me fix the ferule, but most just want it made permanent. In those cases, a light coating of rod building epoxy on the ferule and pushing it tightly together no doubt makes it permanent. Even coating the ferule ends with rod finish or even color preserver will make it nearly impossible to ever get apart again. (I've had rods here that were super glued at the ferule, which no doubt makes them permanent.
I have done a few where they ferule fell near or at the first guide, in those cases, you can position that guide and the wraps to disguise the glued joint. I've seen this quite often with OEM rods, particularly from Shimano and a few Fenwick and early Berkley rods as well. One rod that comes to mind that was built that way was the Shimano Bull whip and some Ugly Stiks as well. I just figured it allowed them to use one handle section on many different action rods. There are some longer rods that I want but I don't want to fork over the ridiculous shipping charges. Or are the two piece rods just as sturdy? ~Jon There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind Re: making a 2 pc rod a 1 pc?

Good 2-piece rods are every bit as sturdy. You are looking for a tip-over-butt ferrule. Cheap rods often feature a very poor tip-into-butt type ferrule and frankly, these don't wear well. They aren't configured to allow for wear and thus become loose fairly quickly. But modern, high quality multi-piece rods are every bit the equal of their 1-piece counterparts.

A lot of rods get broken in travel that is were the 2 pcs rods has the big advantage over 1 pcs rods. The new ferrules are really good to use and good looking like part of the rod now. Better than the older ferrules that we made using another rod for the ferrules. It is your choose but the action on 2 pcs is as good as on a 1 pcs rod. The 2 pcs save a lot of broken rods and loose ferrules are easyly fixed. Re: making a 2 pc rod a 1 pc?
