Wondering if anyone has built a rod with this blank using Texalium tubing ? Was thinking of using the small diameter tubing from Mudhole and wrapping an Aftco plate type reel seat on it.
Any thoughts Thanks Re: Tennessee handle on Batson ISP843-3

You could, but using a foam core-carbon skinned handle would be much lighter, and you can get more creative with the shape, you don’t have to be locked into a straight tube.
[www.rodbuilding.org] here is a good example of what y can do with the foam core-carbon skin system. Re: Tennessee handle on Batson ISP843-3

You could certainly do it - that's one of the applications that the Texilium tubing was brought into the rod building market for.

One thing to consider is the size of tubing you choose.
I built one using the smaller tubing thinking I would like it more. But I hardly ever use it because for me the larger tubing is just more comfortable on the hand after a few hours use. With the smaller size my fingers feel strained after a period of time. Re: Tennessee handle on Batson ISP843-3

Mike,
The handle looked great, but I'm not ready to go there yet. Tom, Maybe I should ask, would this type handle work well with this blank. For me at least this is an expensive blank and I wanted to do something other than the normal preformed grips. I was also thinking about doing some sort of split grip or possibly use about 6in. of the tubing to mount the reel seat and then split grip style with some kind of cork butt cap. Or maybe I should just go with split grip and standard reel seat. I know a lot of this is just personnel choice but I don't want to waiste a good blank because of some wierd grip set-up. Steve, My mistake it was the larger 1.05 O.D. tubing I was going to use. I used the smaller tube for an ice rod handle and it worked okay for that. Re: Tennessee handle on Batson ISP843-3

The bottom line is whether or not the grip is something you would find comfortable in use. If so, then yes, it's a good set up for that blank.
That's really the bottom line in rod handles and grips - is it functional and comfortable to use. If so, then it's correct. .......... Re: Tennessee handle on Batson ISP843-3
