Brass tubing for rod extension

I want to extend a imx sj6400 and my local hardware store does not carry suitable aluminum tubing, but they do have brass that is thin yet strong. Would this work for extending the rod blank as well as Al or would there be corrosion/tarnish issues that could affect long term durability?

Since I work with tubing, I say a thin yellow brass tube won't be stong enough without a good wall thickness and then it gets heavy. Aluminum would be best it's a harder material and lighter then a comparable yellow brass in the same wall thickness. Even a copper tube would be to heavy and tend to split due to it's hardness and soft copper..... Well forget that! Try some suppliers on line that you can buy any quanity from, There are a few I have seen.
I have to reread Toms article but I thought it said even a old fiberglass blank section could work!

Unfortunately, I do not have the proper length or diameter scraps around. The brass is tougher than the thin aluminum they had. All the Al was to thin diameter and walls, and bent very easily. I could check HD and Lowe's next though, if I have to.

What wall thickness should I be looking for in Al? I have the Rodmaker article and just skimmed the library one quickly, and did not see the recommended wall thickness.

Thanks!

Better than any metal extension GARAGE SALE ON THE WEEKEND you'll find a lot of broken beat up rods that you can use for extension's, repairs and all sorts of things, for 20 to 30 dollars on one week end you can end up with enough rods you won't know what to do with it all, and you just might pick up a customer or two in the process.

Dean, you could also check with some sporting goods stores and see if they have had any warranty returns that you could get your hands on that may of the proper lenth and diameter to do what you need.

I have a bunch of aluminum tubes that I can share if the specs would work for anyone on here. It was salvaged from communication antennas and it's tough as nails! I plan on going to the show in Feb.

About 19" long
.75 OD
.62 ID
.06 wall thickness

Check with your local archery shop, most carry a multitude of arrow shafts in many diameters and wall thickness..... Aluminum alloy, Alloy/Carbon, Carbon, Carbon core etc. All far, far stronger than anything you'd find in a hardware store. Doubt you'd find anything large enough for a surf rod but you should be able to find something for just about any flyrod extension. Hope this helps.

Regards, Andy
