I was asked from a friend to fix a 6' 6" Eglass casting rod smashed 10 inches from the tip. To do it I need to remove the tip top plus 2 single foot in roder to sleeve it. I tried to remove the tip top in all ways desribed in this forum: lighter, steam, heat and wire pulling, faith, etc and no way.
This is a very expensive japanese rod so the tip top: Fuji Titanium Sic. I can cut the blank and try to clean the tip top tube for re-use and lost a half inch in rod lenght - or - sand the tip top tube wall, split and remove it and buy a new one keeping the rod length and original blank. Looks simple to decide but for any reason the decision got hard to me! Any help here? Re: Help on decision

It would depend on how much difference loosing the 1/2 inch would make to the rod. The sleeve is already going to change it somewhat so the lose may never be realized due to the repair. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/19/2008 11:10PM by Fred Yarmolowicz. Re: Help on decision

Sounds like some serious adhesive was used, but I'd hazard a guess and say it's 5 minute epoxy. You may not be able to save the top, and 1/2 inch won't hurt the rod in the grand scale of things (repair) 10" down the blank will have a greater effect.
Cut through the blank right at the edge of the tip top and drill the remainder out. It's already a tight fit, so it probably won't fit further down unless you sand back the tip a tad, or use the bit to just open it out a tad. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
