Has anyone made an ice rod suitable for dead sticking. If so, where did you find the blank?
Thank you very much for your help. Jason Sullivan Re: Dead Sticking Ice Blank

Bill, a deadstick rod runs from 28" - 38".
Here is CRITICAL part. The tip section maybe 1/3 of the tip section is of very light power. Think in terms of a noodle blank. Then it quickly transitions to a medium power toward the butt section. There are very few production rods like this. I consider Thorne Brothers to be a leader in design. They use a solid glass blank. I'm just curious if there are other options open to me, other than buying from Thorne Brothers. They are very nice people, but I would just like to explore all options. Thanks, Jason Re: Dead Sticking Ice Blank

Jason,
I was just over at Wild River Distributing yesterday and they had some wonderful blanks that can be used for a dead stick rod. [www.wildriverdistributingllc.com] I have also picked up some excelent dead stick blanks from Thorne Brothers earlier this week. [www.thornebros.com] Great products - both. I think that the best dead stick rods are made from Glass. Glass can be ground to give a more flexible tip - that is difficult with graphite or carbon. Glass also has the advantage of being next to indestructible. Take care Roger Re: Dead Sticking Ice Blank

Thanks Roger. Wild River is my primary supplier. What blank specifically is catered to this application?
Thanks, Jason Re: Dead Sticking Ice Blank

Jason,
Check the fall flyer. [www.wildriverdistributingllc.com] In particular check item - IB 20 These are painted blanks with orange tips. The blanks are 50 inches long as delivered. You can trim the butt of tip to get the desired action. If you want an ultra light action - cut from the butt. If you want medium action, cut from the tip. They also have the same blanks - unpainted in clear. Take care Roger Re: Dead Sticking Ice Blank

Last time I checked with Wild River, they only sold to people with business #'s - is this still the case? If not, does anyone retail for them - I'm interested in the glass blanks, graphite blanks, and the guide sets on that flyer. Thanks! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
