Hello Everyone- Last year at the show, I questioned a number of rodbuilders about the spaces they use to build rods. I received lots of advice about lighting, storage, room size, etc., and I wanted to share the photos I uploaded a few minutes ago along with details about how what we call "The Rod Room" came to be.
Scott bought a house last March that required a complete interior renovation including kitchen, three new baths, flooring, trim moulding, paint, carpet, etc. Those changes were completed and Scott moved in the 3rd week of April. He left a few days later to fish his tournament in Panama. The carpenter Mark and I had resolved to finish the rod room prior to his return. As you can imagine the renovations to the house required most of the budget, so we had to be creative and work fast. After reviewing a breathtaking estimate from a builder to add a room onto the house near the family room, we decided to use the screened porch off the master bedroom. The biggest expense was for the windows and door. We purchased new kitchen cabinet "banks" from the Apex Cabinet Yard sale ( held over in Cary NC twice yearly) for about $90. This purchased a drawer bank with 3 drawers, and two drawer banks with a top drawer and a cabinet underneath. Additionally, we bought two appliance garages and placed them up on end for more storage. A plain sheet of white Corian made for a neat worktop. There are two 4 shelf wire storage units that hold tools and supplies. There is a 6 foot overhead flourescent fixture and ample daylight as the room is windows on three sides. We added insulation under the floor, and above the ceiling . The plywood floor was stained with opaque white stain. After it dried, I painted 3 foot squares on the diagonal in gray. We also added an industrial gray carpet rug trimmed in rubber that I bought at Habitat for Humanity Resale store here in Raleigh. Finally, we hung Scott's marlin mount on the back wall of windows. Big Mo looks nice there. The photo gallery has four photos. Thank you to everyone who provided advice to me on this project:. It was a lot of fun. I will post about the Fishsticks move and photos of the new shop later. WE ARE UP AND RUNNING AND SHIPPING ORDERS. Call me or sign on to the Fishsticks site. Website renovations will be completed soon but don't wait!! 1-919-900-8998 Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
