Flattened Rod Tip

I got a boat rod in for a repair today. When the guy called me he said the tip "came off." It looks like that is the case, but the tip of the blank itself has been flattened so it is oval, not round. It looks like the tube size should be around a 10, but the ring size is only an 8. Tube size is a lttle hard to determine, because of the flattening. It might be a 9. I can find an 8-9 Fuji, but no 8-10. I tried to put a little pressure on the flattened tip to see if I could reshape it, but it didn't help.
Anyone got a suggestion for getting the blank back into round? I am considering cutting the flat section off and repositioning the tip. Might cost a quarter inch of length, but then I'll have to remove the tip wrap and do a new one. I wondered if there was an easier way.

Cut it and resize. 1/4 inch off the top won't hurt.

Yep, chop it off and re-size....... and if you need too, you can always wrap the rods tip with szA thread to help it fit a "one size larger tip" if you cant get the perfect tube size for any rod.

As DR and Kevin say cut it off resize. Did he bring the old tip in with him??? That will give you a better idea of what really happened!
I would look at the blank a lot closer use magnifying glasses if you have them, if the tip of the blank is flat and it has stayed that way after you removed the tip top, there may be more damage back further than the first 1/4". Look at the blank real close if the blank has stayed flatten or oval shaped I would bet there is more damage than is visible by the naked eye.
I had a repair in not to long ago and the guy said the tip top ring broke, OK i said, when I looked real close he had slammed the tip in a door, about 1 1/2" back the blank was split I use magnifying glasses, the split was not visible with the naked eye!!!!!

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like there is only one real option; cut the tip. I have examined the blank for further damage, but haven't removed the tip wrap yet. Unless the damage is under the wrap, whuch I doubt, I should just be able to cut & resize. My concern is that if I have to go to a size 10 tube, I can't find one with a size 8 ring. Best I can do is a 10/10.

Ron, thanks for the heads up! I have bookmarked the page you sent. Now if I can just get to the bench to start the repair. I need to trim the end and resize before I order the top.
