Just completed my first 2 fly rod builds. I'm clueless about how to fly cast so I really never thought I could build one and be sure that it would perform as best as possible. Very intimidating they were!
Well, not any more (at least not nearly as much! lol) . With the help from other accomplished builders both with questions and building seats & grips specificly for me I'm happy to know that I can DO IT! One is a 9ft 3pc 5/6wt $600+ (retail) concidering the high end custom pieces I had made by JP Timberlake & Jeff & Rhonda VanZandt and the Fuji TSVG & TLNG guides on Lamiglas PFT 108 blank. [www.rodbuilding.org] One is far less pricy (got a great deal on the custom grip/seat by Rich Gassman) but still should cast like a dream. It's a 9ft 3pc 7wt [www.rodbuilding.org] Special thanks to Tom K., JP Timberlake, Jeffery & Rhonda VanZandt, & Rich Gassman for making these builds possible and giving me the answers, confidence, & materials I needed for these first projects. I salute you all! Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Not intimadated anymore by fly rods

Ray, with your wonderful rod building skills, I am glad to see you getting deeper into this fun addiction. The Rods look really sweet. Your Saramento area has some very nice trout fishing and your connections to Southern Idaho put you in some great trout water too ! Casting a fly rod is not a big thing. Network with a fly fishing friend and you'll have the basics down in no time. Other builders sharing grips and handles is a nice product of the personal networking going on in Rod Building. I am finishing a little rod for my G-son that has one of your dad's wooden handles on it. Looks nice. Gosh if you start fly fishing, maybe Barkley will try it too!?! Raymond,
A question on the second rod, what brand reel seat is that? I don't think I've ever seen one like it. Eric Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/10/2008 08:06AM by Eric Petersson. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
