John-- I bought the RW-3L eighteen years ago,and over that period I have added the new chuck, added extra rod supports and the new thread carriage now that makes it the RW-3XL.
I am just a hobby builder and it does what I use it for. However I also have the RW-JR hand wrapper that I have been using more so now than the power wrapper.
I'm retired now and I'm not pressed for time,so I enjoy sitting at my work bench and hand wrap.I now use the power wrapper mostly for drying.I have turned some grips on the power wrapper and they came out well. However I didn't like the dust in the house and around my work area, and the dust alway got onto my thread.Even though I have my thread stored in plastic boxes.
So now I do my turning outside on a Grizzly hobby lathe.
It all depends on what you are planning on doing. On a small scale and just a few rods a year,it has served me well, and what I payed for it back then it has more than payed for itself.
I know others will chime in here and help you out also. You also can do a search and you'll have tons of reading on the subject. Good luck:<<<<DON>>>>

I agree with Donald, I did upgrad to the new chuck but held on to the old plastic one for larger diamerter blanks. I use mine constatnly for every thing. It really helps on speeding up cross wraps a little. I too have used it for a cork grip lathe and it works great. I have a cheap Menards lathe ($99.00) for my wood grips which works just fine over all..

I have the RW-3XL. I got mine in February, I am very happy with it. It took me a little while to get used to it, but now that I am I don't know how I ever lived without one.
