There are many rod blanks produced here in the U.S., Loomis, Lamiglas, St. Croix, Calstar, Seeker, Rogue, Thomas and Thomas, etc. Not many components are made here any longer, however. REC/Perfection are all made here. So too are Struble and Belinger seats. But for most of the popular nylon type seats and ceramic style guides, you'll have a hard time finding any domestic sources. What is offered along those lines typically comes from the orient.

Per the rules, we won't use this forum to discuss/argue politics or trade policies. Hope you can understand where that type of thing usually leads on a public forum. Thanks.

Bucky's question is easily answered without such being brought into the discussion.

What kind of rod? Its quite easy for heavy saltwater; Winthrop Tool, I think Aftco, All American Roller, a few other. Blanks are easy and obvious. Lighter rods are harder because Fuji is in my mind the benchmark for friction guides and non alloy reel seats. I also prefer American but you have to admit there are very very nice high quality components made by non U.S. companies....just being honest.

Brandon

I am from Canada, but that shouldn't matter. I wanted to know why he wanted to use US parts when the off shore stuff such as Fugi sets the bench mark. Was it from a performance point of veiw? Cost?

Scott
Batson and Pacific bay both use off shore components. As does St Croix on their finished rods

Please check out buckys web site www.allenrods.com

Loyality to a country does not answer my question.

Sorry to have stirred the pot but I just wanted to know why ?

What is the big deal, OFF SHORE or HOME LAND . Have you bought a car lately or fuel? I may be wrong, but some of the blank manufactures mentioned above, also have off shore blanks. An unless you know what to look for the average fisherman can't tell. I think Bucky's question was components. From the rummer I heard about why components are made off shore was it had to do with the process and cost. Bucky what companies did your customor want.

Bass rod type components will be harder to source from U.S. manufacturers because not many of those type pieces are made here any more. I can't say who makes the Castaway components, but I'm sure Lance or Bill can fill you in.

Trying to buy all American (if that is where your from) isn't easy. Fuji Products are a standard and while they are a Japanese company I believe make the best products in their class. For boat rods(rollers) Aftco is the best with Stewart a close second. Blanks are easy but some US companys also have a lower priced import line. If a US company was to produce Guides that could compete with Fuji I might be swayed but I doubt that will happen.
If you think about all the blanks still made in the US there are quite a few and should be easy to find. I build only US made blanks, That's what I prefer.

Fly rod components are easy to find that are made in the USA, except single foot insert ring type guides reelseats are USA made. All cork comes from I believe Spain. There are some metal guides made in the states for standard rods, but when it comes to graphite reelseats and insert rings in guides they come from over seas. Point of interest the graphite that is used to make blanks is all imported. As for the comment American made! Heck 98% of all products used or eating in the USA are imported in. I am a Diabetic, I ware an Insulin infusion pump that cost 6 grand. The pump was made in Japan and the company is an American company, Even some medicine is imported in. I also heard some of our favorite chocolate are also imported in and we all own cars where are there parts manufactured. I am sorry to say in to days world there is nothing that is totally US made. Sorry for the soap box speech. One good point as far as custom rod builders go we in the USA design the best product. If I offended some of our great custom rod builders from other countries I apologize. Just remember we gave you the idea. The best in the world custom rod builders are those who build split bamboo rods from raw material and those builders are not from the USA
