Wire Line Salmon Rods year end update

Two RDR100 simple spiral diver rods used by charter captain on Lake Michigan for 2008 season. One rod had @#$%& roller tip and one had Fuji Silicon Nitride Turbo tip to match the Silicon Nitride turbo boat rod guides. Neither rod saw any surface damage, even under magnification. The surprising thing to me was that the roller tip had equal line curl as the standard tip at end of season, neither was an issue however, just an observation. I had one 8'6" RDR with Zirconia rings converted to wire late in the season-it showed significant scuffing in the top three or four guides.

Hypothesis-After one season, I will speculate that the SN and SIC guide rings can and will withstand wire line use. If charter guys can't wreck them, then most mortal fishermen shoudn't be able to as well. I won't be hesitating to refer my clients away from heavy roller rods next season.
