saltwater winding check

Hello,

I'm going to build a saltwater flyrod and I'll be needing a winding check. Of course rubber is the safest choice however I like the looks metal ones (silver) better. What would be the best choice in terms of corrosion resistance (I wash my rod with water after every trip), nickel silver, titanium carbide? Does titanium carbide come in a silver look, because it looks silver in the picture I see from the supplier? To my knowledge it has this gunsmoke like finish.

Thanks for your help!

Eric

Anodized aluminum comes to mind.

You could build up a ramp with 5 minute epoxy and wrap it in the color of your choice.

You can also put a couple of coats of clear on it to protect it from the water.

You may want to try a Brass with Tich coating, here is a link;

Hello Ron,

When you say try brass with the TiCh coating, do you mean the Batson LTWC ones mentioned in the link, because I really like the high gloss appearance. I think it's the same one I'm refering to when I'm talking about titanium carbide (it looks the same). I'm going to use it on a blue blank (Sage Xi2) so I can use some contrast. Do you have good experiences using the plated brass on saltwater rods?

Cheers,

Eric
