My uncle gave me a St. Croix rod blank and just trying to ID it. It is deep pine green color and i beleive the decal reads 5S66MLF? I was thinking about making it my river smallmouth rod. Is this a decent rod blank? Feels extremely light! Thanks Frank Re: St. Croix rod blank ID?

if it is as reads... its a SCV 6'6" Medium Light Fast action spinning blank... should be very light, very fast..... I'm not so sure it is that, as I am not too sure when/if they were made in that color.... the ones i've seen are a pearlescent brown.
kinda sounds like a SCIV, but they might have made an SCV in that color at one time, i know they've been changing the colors some lately. Re: St. Croix rod blank ID?

Before the legend elites were brown they were dark green. So it should be an excellent blank. Its st. croix's top of the line, its just a little bit older. Re: St. Croix rod blank ID?

The MLF is a lighter action than some would prefer for smallies - but it depends on what you are going to throw with it - for light jigs or split shot rigs it would be great. The tail dancers should give you a good tussle on that stick. It also makes for a great Lindy rigging rod for eyes. The blank is a bit light for medium and larger crankbaits in my estimation. Although small rebel craws and the smallest of the rapalas would likely be fine with it. The green SC5's are nice - I have one in the old green color that is a 63mxf and I have found it to be an extremely versatile blank. Enjoy.
