Finish on guide wraps?

It has been some time since I built some rods for myself but I was going to wrap some rods for Saltwater fishing. My question is this, what type of finish should I use? I see products like High Build and Lite and I'm not sure what the applications are and how they would best benefit me. I will be using an underwrap of (A) thread in a metallic and a size C or D for the guide wrap.
Any direction and help would be greatly appreciated.

That's a tough call - everybody likes something different. My choice has always been anybody's standard hi-build type epoxy. It can be applied thin or thick, and you can achieve just about any depth or look you want with it.

With the Lite, do you have to apply several coats to get the thicker smooth finish or should you use one coat of the High Build? Is there any difference between durability and the effects of the action on the rod?
thanks

This may sound like a stupid answer, but how much time do you have? I would love to use seven coats of a thin finish like Threadmaster - some of the guide wraps I've seen finished this way are truly works of art. But I don't have the time needed to apply five or seven coats of finish -- I can barely find enough time to do one.

I use a high-build finish, lay it on thick, and even it out after it's applied. My wraps will never win a beauty pageant, but they look OK and they perform great. If itme is an issue, you might find this method to work for you too. Good luck.

I use 2 or 3 coats of high build and like Tom, I can apply it as thick or thin as I want. I usually opt for as thin a finish I can get and recently have been doing a first coat of lite build and the remain coat(s) of high build. It's what works for me.

Above all else, find one particular finish you like, and just stick with it. The more you use it, the better you get at using it.
