Hi all,
I am looking to try my hand at a a few checkerboard rings in my next grip. I did some research on the site and saw that Custom Tackle sells a really sweet cork "pie" jig. It is in the photo library. Unfortunately I contacted them and their next shipment is likely to arrive only in 60-90 days. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on one of these (or a similar product) before then? Thanks Re: cork jig

If I were you...I'd just make my own..pvc pipe and cut slots in it similar to a miter box...you get the idea

I agree with David. I made 3, One jyst has just 1 cut so I can just cut the cork in 1/2, the second one has 2 cuts, so I can get 1/4 cuts then the third one has 8 slices. I so have a PVC tub that is 1/2 inch long that has a 1/4 inch slice in it so I can cut 1/4 inch rings. I use a singlr blad razor or a utility blade to cut my cork. The cork comes out smooth every time.

There is NO comparison to the jigs that Custom Tackle Suppy sells. They are precision machined aluminum with exact tolerences and small kerfs. They offer two types. They are NOT on their web site. Just give Bob McKamey a phone call.
[www.rodbuilding.org] 12 wedge version [www.rodbuilding.org] 8 wedge version Incidently, I have used it with wood and acrylic as well as cork! Both types also have a slicing jig too. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/17/2008 05:09PM by Mike Barkley. Re: cork jig

Thanks Mike.
I did speak with Bob, unfortunately they don't have stock at the moment and expect to get only in 2-3 months time. Incidentally, I saw one (looks identical to the Custim Tackle one) in the Merrick Tackle online catalouge - page 23. I dropped them a line, but have not heard back yet.
