A multi-piece rod for trolling billfish teasers would be nice to take along to some of the places I have been saltwater fly fishing. The last lodge where I stayed wanted $40/day rent for a trolling rod. I was thinking of buying an inexpensive 4 piece 12 weight blank, dropping the tip section, and building a teaser rod I could take with me. There may be other and better solutions. Any suggestions? When you say Billfish teasers are we talking Ballyhoo with a skirt or moldcraft Bobby brown specials. There is a major difference between the 2 and picking a rod will depend on that. Re: Travelling Teaser Rod Needed

Dan,
This same idea occured to us several years ago. We approach all of the major rod companys in the USA to see if we could have someone manufacture a 3 piece 7 foot 50 pound class trolling rod blank. We always received the same answer there is not enough interest. Finally we contacted the folks at CTS and they made the blanks for us. We had them designed so that you could build them straight thru or attach a uni-butt. The straight thru model is an outstanding trolling rod. The models with the uni-butts are perfect teasers rods because of the added length. We took a couple to Costa Rica to test and they worked out just fine. We brought several examples to the 2008 Rod Expo and ended up taking orders for some. Since that time the people who have used them always say the same thing why don't the major rod companys make trolling rods for the travling angler. The answer is what seperates the custum rod builder/ designer from the traditionlist rod companies. Fresh new ideas. Michael Taylor Bluewater Fly Tackle Re: Travelling Teaser Rod Needed

Lamiglas tried this market a few years back and didn't have many biters. Angler's Workshop had a bunch of the blanks in a barrel that weren't disappearing very quickly even after they took about 50% off the price. There still may be some back there. They were the GBT843 L 20 lb and GBT843M 30 lb 3 piece blanks. I personally thought they were more powerful than their rating.
Just got off the phone with Angler's, they have lots of those blanks left. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/28/2008 01:12PM by Spencer Phipps. Re: Travelling Teaser Rod Needed

We do have about 30 of each of the L (20lb) and M (30lb) left. They are first quality Lamiglas blanks with the Lamiglas decals. We currently have them listed on our @#$%& store and have one of each up for @#$%&. I just cut the price in half (from $99 each to $49 each) on both of those models. They can be purchased through our @#$%& store or calling us directly. If you have any questions about these blanks, just let me know. Wes Faul Angler's Workshop P.O.
