Looking for some recommendations for catfish blanks.
8' - 9'. 2-piece preferable. Moderate action. 15 - 20 pound line, weighted 5" bobbers, 1/8 - 1/4 ounce egg sinkers, bare hook with shrimp. Thanks ................................... Better to have and not need than to need and not have. Re: Catfish Blank Recommendations

How big are the cats? The weight you're using is light so I am guessing they are not too deep.
Don't pay attention to Bill's pic. That is one of those monsters only caught on gratons and andouille! Re: Catfish Blank Recommendations

Most are under 10 pounds.
But my customer landed a 70 pounder over the weekend. Hence the sudden urge to not get a Smallmouth rod and get a cat rod instead. Better to have and not need than to need and not have. Re: Catfish Blank Recommendations

Batson 8'0" 2-piece RX7 ... SW967F. 15-25#, 3/4-4.0, Mod-Fast, 4.26 oz blank weight. Best of all, moderately priced for easy digestion. Re: Catfish Blank Recommendations

Built a lot of Cat Rods on the Batson blanks, can't beat them. But I have always built 7' one piece. Jim has got a good suggestion in my opinion. If you want heavier, move up to a 30# blank. Re: Catfish Blank Recommendations

To bad St Croix quit making their S glass cat blank, it was a dandy for many things. Re: Catfish Blank Recommendations

That glass SW blank really sounds good - You can catch all the small ones for the frying pan. When you need to feed a large crowd with catfish courtbullion (Coo- be-yon) just jump in the water, swim to bottom, find the hollow log, feel around stick you hand down its throat, make a fist, drag the beast out, hurl it up in the boat or on the bank and use the rod to knock the beast Kagoo! Be sure to use plenty lead in the butt to balance the rod for a quick and painless knock out! A seventy pounder can feed 75 people if you can afford the 20 pounds of rice. Matt, Go to Batson website and look at IST1084F or IST1085F . Both are Steelhead rods but are excellent rods for catfishing. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
