rod making a whinying sound

I built a rod for a customer on a gator blank with pac bay wire guides. He is telling me it is making a loud whinying noise when he has a fish on and he is reeling it in. I ask him what type of line he is using? He stated power pro braid. I told him that the braided lines do this. am I correct? Is there anything that can be done to stop it?
Thanks Dale

yup i got two surf rods that "talk"to me when theres a fish on i think personally its to do with the vibration of the fish as it doesnt do it with weed ect
but its only with a particular reel (Daiwa to be exact)
ask him if he is using a dawia slosh type reel or not
failing that tell him its an inbuilt feature..
It used to get on my nerves but I soon learnt to use it to my advantage and got used to it now i miss it when i use any other rod

Every rod I use with braided line does this, regardless of guide type. I think a lot of people who pump fish into the boat do not experiance this, but those who bottom fish with heav drag and just winch fish in will notice it right away. That's a guess on my part based on m rods and fishing.

Yep, Billy got it right. ALL rods with braid make noise, some more than others. The resonance is particularly annoying with wire guides ... whether they are SS wire or Nickel Titanium RECoils.

His glass is half empty...if he has a fish on using braid and its stripping line...the sound is more of a "singing" sound, not a "whinning" sound. Tell him to wear hearing protection. LOL

I get the super high pitched whizzwhizzwhizz sound swhen I hook a Fluke/Flouder and turn the handle quickly 4 or 5 times to pick up teh slack. Teh braid rubs on the levelwind andalerts everyone in the boat that I have a fish in, in spite of my efforts to be discreet.
