I'm on my third ever built rod, a spiral wrap. I finished the set up and packed and didn't wrap to tight or loose and on all the threads I used CP. I did this two nights ago and yesterday put my finish on (Flex Coat high build) It came out great and smooth and had no problems with bubbles for the most part. I looked at it last night about 6 hours after application and my threads have seemed to gap or seperate. I'm not worried that the rod will fail and I'm not concerned that way, I'm just trying to figure out what happened so it won't happen again. Re: Thread question??

maybe it wasnt packed as tight as you thought??? epoxy finish won't cause the threads to separate if that is what you are asking Re: Thread question??

John....sounds like not packing the threads good enough to me...when I first started to wrap it was three wraps and pack ...three wraps and pack. Within time it will come easy to you. Tight Lines Tight Wraps Fishin'Stix by Fred Re: Thread question??

I think that might be what it is! I'm thinking the epoxy just magnified it and I'm noticing it now. All in all the rod turned out great and I'm sure the next will be even better. Re: Thread question??

Adding CP and/or epoxy finish will show up so amazing gaps in the threads even though you couldn't see them before you added finish.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, I thought I was careful in packing the threads. Oh well so I built a few feeter..... It looks great from a few feet away LOL. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
