I have read Tom's book plus several others. I got all the supplies from Custom Tackle - 8' 4pc 5wt. I have found the spline (I think). I built a wrapping stand. I am throwing my wife out for the weekend. The dog is eyeing me suspiciously, but my confidence is high. Friday I start. All the people who helped to get me this far - thanks. Hi Don...... Sounds like you are ready to build a fishing rod.......good for you !! You'll the enjoy the "sense of accomplishment" from building your own rod, and when you catch your first fish on that rod, that is just the "icing on the cake".... What I learned about rod building is, if at some time, you feel frustrated, walk away for a few minutes, go get a cup of coffee, and think out the problem, and, you will come back refreshed !! Good Luck to you Don....... Mary Lou A couple hints...

Don, it sounds like you have "all systems go", and are well armed to move forward. You will not regret building a rod, it is a great sense of accomplishment. Based on my experience as a new rod builder this year, I have a couple tips to reduce grief... 1) Open the windows during and after applying finish, my wife goes ballistic if she smells epoxy in the house! 2) Keep the dog away from the work area... he's bound to give a good shake right after you apply your epoxy. 3) Make sure you are careful mixing the epoxy in the right proportions, and stir for 2 mins. 4) Be patient... but I think you are since you read the book prior to beginning. 5) Have fun! Welcome to a great hobby! Mark Re: A couple hints...

"Cleanliness = quality" - have your wife take the dog with her.... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
