What is the best way to put a wrap on the exposed blank of a split grip? Do I assemble the handle first, then add the wrap? Or is it easier to mark the blank, do the wrap, and, then, glue on the grips? Re: Best way to put a wrap on a split grip?

You can do it either way. However if you are using rubber winding checks, it's probably easier to wrap and finish first, then install the grips.
If you wrap after, you can make winding checks out of tinted finish epoxy, or make an epoxy ramp and wrap over it, giving the wrap a very finished and integrated look. Terry Re: Best way to put a wrap on a split grip?

George-
If you install the grips 1st and your reaming job is not perfect you will then be able to push a few wraps under the grip ends as a little filler. Your finsh will then wick toward the grip helping to fill any little gap that might be there............Don't ask me how I know that Chris Re: Best way to put a wrap on a split grip?

I usually do the wrap first, then install the grips, but either way works. It's what works best for you!! Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Best way to put a wrap on a split grip?

I do the grips first, (graphite) then start at grip and wrap out packing threads tight to grip. Re: Best way to put a wrap on a split grip?

If you do the wraps first, you can make it so there is no tie off, hide it under the grips. Looks nice and clean. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
