Does PG "glue" the guide on thru the thread?

Given how it penetrates, along with how hard it is, will it work in combination with the thread so as to "glue" the thread on? Sort of like concrete and rebar?

Sort of, but it's the thread that holds the guide to the rod and that's all that's needed. The topcoat is just to protect the thread.

You can, however, make a threadless guide wrap using just PG alone, without thread.

Marty,

In my humble opinion, the thread and finish are a TWO PART system that work together to hold the guide in place. Some finish brands hold better than others, permagloss is one of those that holds better than some.

Perma Gloss is remarkable stuff. Wrap a guide on a blank with a has a surface finish either gloss or matte and apply Perma Gloss. If and when it comes back in for a guide repair - remove the thread and you will find that the Perma Gloss will also remove the finish on the blank. It is bonded to the finish stronger than the finish is bonded to the blank.
