Have the ole standard fish decals that are sold all over changed their makeup? I know I mentioned having an issue with one in another thread and I'm not trying to beat a "dead horse" here, but I never had an issue with a peel and stick fish decal until these new-er ones I got a month or so back. They look the same, but they wont take finish, none of the older ones had this issue-for me. Now ALL of them have it.
I tried the alcohol wipe down suggested too, zero change. Makes me feel like the top "peel off" paper that goes over the decals face is contaminating the decal surface and the finish. It seperates like a scared rabbit. I tried it on some decals ALONE just for giggles...same seperation. I got out an older decal that the top paper seems to be stuck harder too versus the new ones and NO problem at all. Same finish laid down like a slick lake with no wind. I know the "fix's", just wondered if there was a change made to them lately..... DR Re: Fish decal wipe = no go

You'd have to ask the makers I guess. It could well be that at least some of them are made by companies who have no idea that they're going on fishing rods and having epoxy applied over them.

I'm not sure where you are getting the ones you are talking about but I know that the Manufacturers we get our decals from are very aware of the end use and know that they will be having a finish put over them.

We've used decals from Mud Hole, as well as others, and we also make our own from a Testor's kit. We coat the rod with the Sol product, then coat the decal with the same stuff after application and getting rid of the water. We leave it to dry for 24hrs and finish up with epoxy. No problems at all.
