Tacky Finish

We do a fair amount of business in Australia and have been experiencing an issue with a number of rods getting shipped.

We've utilized both Diamondite and Threadmaster for the finish so I don't believe it is related to the finish being utilized-
Both are measured in flexcoat syringes and mixed in a power mixer for 2-5 minutes depending on the finish.
When the rods leave the shop the finish has set and is hard,
however after hitting the shores of Australia they have become tacky to the touch, Some of the rods "dry out" and harden up again while some take forever to harden while in the country.
Our distributor air dries them, or puts them over a vent that constantly blows 72 degree warm air on them and even after a few days they are still tacky.

All rods are shipped in PVC tubes, with an aluminum rod tube and rod bag for additional protection.

Any ideas?

Is the finish really tacky, can you leave a finger print in the finish or does it just feel tacky?
How soon after you apply the finish do you ship the rods?

Thanks for the reply Tim,
In some cases you can leave a fingerprint in others it just feels tacky.
The rods typically site 2-3 days before shipping out.

My only guess is that they are exposed to very high heat, somehow, during shipping. Although, it seems as if that would only harden the finish further.

Try shooting an email to Tim at Swifty or Andy Dear and see if they can shed any light on the problem. Roger Seiders would be a good person to ask, as would Ralph O'Quinn.

Tom,
I'll blast out a few emails and see what I get back- the only thing I could think of was the pressure from flying at 30,000 feet and being in a sealed rod tube might have something to do with it.
I'm stumped on this one though.
thanks

Dave

Dave sounds like every thing is ok but do what Tom says, I don't have any answers for you. I have never run into any thing like what you have describe and I also have shipped via the air lines.

Maybe some sort of xray or bomb sniffing equipment??????
