Choker guide location

I am building a 6'6" spinning rod and have a question on choker location. This rod will have a Shimano or Daiwa 2500 sized reel on it which have a 45 and 48 mm spool lip diameter. If I converted that correctly the choke guid should be 48-51 inches from the reel (extended to the top of the retrieve). My question is this will leave only 14 or so inches to the tip of the rod. This does not leave much space for running guides and looks like the choke guide is within the tip section when the rod is flexed (this is a meduim power St Croix - fast action). Do I need to mover the choker back toward butt on this short rod? By the way the grip is about 11-12" in total. Also since the rod is being set up for 2 reels I assume using the setup for the largest spool will be best? Re: Choker guide location

Perfect. All is well. The system doesn't care how much tip section is left beyond the choker. Yes, set up for the larger reel.

Will do. That means it will only need about 7 guides. It just seems way too easy! I will static test but it just can't be off much if any. I LIKE IT!! Re: Choker guide location

It is easy and 7 guides on a rod of that length is about right. Rig it up and go cast it and see what you think.
