Hi everybody. I have in my hands four rods with a glossy garnet finish, that after some years of use are become opaque in surface. The customer want from me that I polish the blank to restore it at the original sparkle. I need your advise on what can I use to make the job. Thaks a lot in advance.

You have to be really careful here - you can easily polish right throught the ultra-thin clear coat or paint that you have left on those rods.

If a decent soap and water cleaning followed by a wax job won't bring the luster back, then you'd almost be faced with a stripping and refinishing job.

3M Finesse II

It is NOT a wax, and contains NO silicone and is great for use on rods. Just rub it on lightly by hand and it will give a super clean "squeaky" finish with no residue.

I'm giving this a try - 3M #6066 - 3M FINISHING GLAZE PERFECTIT 3000. Product description on 3M.com site, along with dealer locator. As Duane mentioned above, found at most auto parts stores.

I've also had great results with Meguiar's ScratchX [www.meguiars.com]
