Here is a like to a recent poto on the photo board. Someone made a joking comment tht it was on backwards. I've seen them both ways. Is ther a right or wrang way or just preference?

Not that there is a right or wrong way, but most of the time, guides like the one in the picture are placed on the rod the other orientation. Re: DF Guide orientation

Guide inversion on the frame closest to the butt is a "trick" that they do on some high-end Japanese rods. The claim is that it "controls" the line better and so forth. Does it work?? I don't know ... I keep putting my guides on the other way and the rods still cast, so I haven't tried it yet. Re: DF Guide orientation

The guide in the picture makes sense to me as the line would seem to be force to contact the ring. The other way, I think the line would see a bit of frame contact Re: DF Guide orientation

The frame on those guides is sloped on the double leg side that if the line comes in contact with it, it will be directed into the ring gently, or more so that it would if you put the single leg forward. At least that was the design concept according to Fuji. I wouldn't think you'd want the line to hit the frame and if it does you probably don't have something spaced or located properly.
In the long run, I doubt it makes much difference either way - the line is concerned with the ring, not the frame. ................ Re: DF Guide orientation

Thanks guys I figured it did not matter even through it appears to have a design intent. Re: DF Guide orientation
