I am building a 6wt. fly rod w/a fighting butt that screws on/off. My question is the butt will not fit into the blank, so the reel seat is going to have to hang off the end of the blank. Is this okay? and how do I get the fighting butt to secure into the seat?
Thanks in advance! Todd Blanton Re: Need help with fighting butt

What I normally do is pre glue the insert into the reelseat. The insert meaning the piece that the fighting butt screws into. Then, I glue the reelseat onto the blank. Very important setp is that if I remember correctly, there is a hole in the insert. That neds to be plugged with masking tape to keep epoxy from plugging the hole up. I do that by rolling up tape and sticking it in the end that will be inside the reelseat. I hope that helps.
Just use rod bond to glue the insert to the reelseat and you will be fine. Kevin Re: Need help with fighting butt

I do the same except that I cut enough off the butt (about 3/4 inch) so that the rod sections are the same length. Later, E.. Re: Need help with fighting butt

Todd,
You'll have to mount the reel seat in a way to be able to slide the adapter for the fighting butt into the end of the reel seat. Fit the parts together before you glue them up so you can seen how much of the reel seat will hang out past the blank. It will be pleanty strong as most of the reel seat will still be glued to the blank. You might want to scuff up the surfaces on the adapter and the inside of the reel seat where the adapter will be glued so you get a good bond. Good Luck Lynn Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
