Gaps in composite show underlying foam

So, I love the composite article. Tom's follow up method has worked best for me on the skins. I do, however, always seem to have a few small places where gaps in the weave show the underlying foam. This has not been a problem on spin seats or a reverse half wells, only on the front end of a modified wells grip where it tapers down to the blank. Anything I can do about this that y'all have figured out? Right now I'm using the "sharpie method" to color in the gap so the foam isn't so obvious through the gap.

THanks in advance,
Gene

This will help - select the next larger size skin and the weave won't open up on you and thus show the underlying foam.

Or, you can stick with what you have and just paint the foam with enamel paint to the color of the skin and that will also help if you have any open areas.

I would recommend Like Tom said to paint the grip the color of your skin before you put the skin on. That way if this happens to you again you won't even notice it. Scott

Some guy's have been experimenting with tinting one of the parts before mixing. I haven't heard any further on this, but you may give it a try with Swfty's tinting offering. Tim said, in High Point, that they are formulated not to interfere with the properties of any of the epoxies we use. I don't know if that would include the foam core epoxy or not. This is why Tom, and Andy brought this process to light so folks could experiment and develope it. Thank You to them!!! They could have kept it between the 2 of them and cornered the market on lighter grips. But, they as well as the rest of us (I hope) are concerned with promoting and furthering the Custom RodBuilding Market.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I'll paint the core before I lay up next time. That should do it.
