I've just finished wrapping my guides using Gudebrod HT metallic and electra metallic thread. Do I need any color preserver before my flexcoat finish?
Thanks for the help - Erik Re: CP question

Nope. No need on metallics, though some do it as the air bubbles can escape the wraps easier through CP than it can epoxy. Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Re: CP question

No CP needed. I like to put on an ultra thin coat, let it dry and then put on my finish coat for effect ... the reasoning is as Mark mentioned, air bubbles. The light coat will seal and it won't be an issue when you come back with the heavier coat. Metallics definitely are bubble makers. Re: CP question

Be very sure to get the first coat of finish on very thin and quickly. The metallics have a color foil wrapped around the core of the thread and air is inside between the foil and the core. Where you pulled your tie wrap through pay special attention for the first thirty minutes. A cluster of small bubbles can travel up the tie off thread and cause a pool of bubbles at the exit point. Be prepared to remove that bubble cluster with a brush. The finish will displace the air slowly and small bubbles will get trapped in the surface of the coat of finish if it is too thick. Apply the first coat with moderate brush pressure to insure that first coat is thin. The air will escape on its own. I use quite a bit of Electa on underwraps and it will behave the same way on the first coat. I never use CP on Metallics. I do not flame metallic to minimize air expansion contained inside the thread. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
